This sculpture is in constant change since 2020. After I saw a stranger dying in the subway and everyone ignoring it, I decided to dedicate to this event a serie of work that you can find on my website under the project “U-topia” (https://araikedasilva.com/portfolio/u-topia/”). However, after covering the sculpture with a bandage and exhibiting it in different contexts, I have decided to reveal it by removing the textile, and dismantling the face, opening the head, letting the earth and the rain entering in it. After 3 years I have decided to give to the sculpture a new life by burying it in the garden of the Art Academy and let nature do the rest of the job…

There are times in life when we just lose ourselves. It's not always a bad thing, and we might not even notice it happening. Sometimes it's the situations we're in, the people we're with for a while, that change us in a way that we start to fade away. At first, it all seems fine, but when those situations shift, those people move on, we're left feeling like a stranger to ourselves, buried underground, in the dark. I don't even recognize who I am anymore. It'll take a while to figure it out, to remember what used to make us happy, what made us feel free, what made us, well, us. And slowly, we'll start to come back, piece by piece, we'll see ourselves in the mirror again, like reuniting with an old friend you haven't seen in years. Right now, that's how I'm feeling.
