Sculpture - Vulcanic stone
45 x 45 x 25 cm
This sculpture is carved out of “Pedra Canga”, a vulcanic stone which I have found here in Brazil. The was formed circa 3 millions of years ago when Vulcanic eruptions in this area still occurred. This kind of stone is so ancient and yet alive. Plants, insects and bacteria can live and grow inside of it because is rich of minerals and nutrients. Janus was originally a god of light and the sun, god of all origins, of beginnings and endings, of entrances and exits, of doors and gates, the father of all things (including springs). Janus symbolises the duality in the eternal laws, such as creation/destruction, life/death, light/darkness, beginning/end, future/past.

The most obvious reminder that I am the wood and that face is only an expression of me. Beautiful

Appreciating this moment, this not defined moment, that is transactional, is tension, is wondering where are we going later. Giving value to the present…
Expression, beauty and connection are what make life full 🧚✨

Like all things in antiquity, frozen, not out of touch, but out of reach. So close yet so far. I feel like if this sculpture is made 209 years from now it may use concrete or steel. Funny how stones evoke nostalgia.
