Makes me think of isolation of city living

A feeling of cold, naked isolation against contrasting concrete, a potential sonder for the lives of others surrounding us and yet a lack of connectivity to those that are so close and yet so far. The uniformity of the shapes and grey boxes around us, almost a cage for then spirit we long to share and release.

Contrast between the immensely restless, alive outside world and the empty, lifeless character of the inside world. Causing collusion of the two - leading to distortion of self, sucking out the last bit of vivacity, leaving the self like a mannequin for the outside world to devour.

This work reminded me of the time when I moved to Berlin. A city stands nonchalantly, through day and night, as the inhabitants feel lost finding their own standing on the ground. Coming back to the painting, a striking lifelessness of the character portrayed resonates with me. Her inability to feel anything, even though her eyes tear up, feels familiar.

Looking at the past, you never know who you are until you fully analyze it. You can judge yourself, but you must accept it
