La Pescadora

La Pescadora is a self portrait created during residency in Almería, in a finca that was said to be built aided by profits from fishing grouper in the nearby sea, which were plentiful at the time. The painting is based on a photo of printmaker Wolfgang Simon with a grouper fish, the painter substituting herself for the original artist, thus acknowledging the rewards that she reaps from a practice which would be reasonably unacceptable these days, and also as a token of gratitude toward the artist who built the space with such love and creativity, and with passion for the ecology of the area and the sea.
