Stress Calendar is a deeply personal mixed-media artwork that explores the overwhelming weight of daily anxieties and societal pressures. The painting captures a visceral sense of chaos, with expressive brushstrokes and a limited color palette that mirror the inability to articulate complex emotions when feeling overwhelmed. Each brushstroke reflects the heaviness of a relentless inner dialogue, where words often fail, and emotions take over. At the center of the composition lies a calendar, meticulously filled with personal and universal worries. Each day is marked with thoughts like “They’re going to know,” “Should I quit?”, and “Why do I care so much?”—phrases that speak to the exhaustion of constant self-doubt and societal expectations. This calendar becomes a visual manifestation of the cyclical nature of stress, where both the mundane and the monumental weigh equally on the human psyche. Surrounding the calendar are layered elements—magazine cutouts, handwritten notes, and snippets of song lyrics—that add depth to the narrative. These details illustrate the multifaceted sources of anxiety, ranging from personal struggles to global concerns like capitalism, feminism, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. The use of music and playlists during the painting process serves as a bridge between these themes and the artist’s emotional state, creating a deeply immersive and reflective experience for the viewer. The lower section of the painting is dominated by a flower motif, a fragile yet enduring symbol of the artist herself. Resting amidst the chaos, the flower represents a quiet resilience, a determination to survive despite the emotional and societal pressures. The recurring figure attempting to escape the confines of the calendar speaks to a universal desire to break free from these relentless cycles of stress and societal judgment. Through Stress Calendar, the artist invites viewers to confront the pressures of modern life and consider the validity of their own struggles. It’s a reminder that every person’s stress is real and significant, challenging the societal tendency to dismiss or downplay individual experiences. This piece bridges the personal and the collective, offering a space for reflection on the resilience required to navigate a world defined by its complexity and demands.
