“A layered tapestry of heritage and hardship, this image juxtaposes the grandeur of Jama Masjid - a mosque built between 1650-1656, shrouded in pollution, with a humble, makeshift shelter that hints at the resilience of those living in its shadow.”

The golden light of the mosque’s domes, once symbols of aspiration and unity, now struggles to pierce through a thick haze—pollution that settles not only over Delhi’s historic heart but also over the lives of its inhabitants. Above, a woman repairs her fragile dwelling, unseen yet present in the spirit of survival. Her home is built from scraps and necessity, mirroring the temporary, patchwork solutions that many adopt to endure an environment under siege. This contrast speaks to the growing disparity between tradition and survival, between the monumental and the marginalised. In this polluted skyline, we glimpse the impact of unchecked urbanisation, climate change, and socioeconomic divides. The air is thick with more than dust—it is heavy with the price of progress, a haunting reminder that without urgent change, both our ancient wonders and our modern lives stand at risk of being engulfed in a haze of our own making. The question remains: How long can this resilience hold before it, too, is smothered?
